KPI Benchmarking Report & Dashboard

With our Benchmarking & Monitoring Tools we support destinations in adopting KPIs: to monitor your own performance over time, against your own targets to compare your destination’s performance with ‘reference destinations’, usually similar destinations in your region or country, to know where you stand in relation to reference destinations. And in addition, we offer you Public Reporting Tools to communicate your sustainability performance to your residents, tour operators and visitors.

These tools are developed for regions, municipalities and DMOs to compare the performance of their destination KPIs with other (reference) destinations, helping to strengthen their sustainable tourism strategy.

This toolkit consistis of three different tools:

Country-Level Benchmarking Report

Why use this tool?

You may want to compare the performance of your country regarding sustainable tourism-related subjects, with reference (e.g. neighbouring) countries to be chosen by you.

How does it work?

Depending on data available from open sources, databases and projects, we will compile data (e.g. scores, ranks and quantities) on the country in which your destination is based, and compare these with data from the selected countries.

What are the outcomes of it?

A Country Benchmarking Report presenting findings and conclusions on the subjects of your choice. Where useful, the data will be visualised in charts or maps. The report can include country-level information on subjects that are already addressed in a report [B2] but also subjects for which only country-level data are available (e.g. Healthcare, Water and Sanitation, Human rights, Freedom of press, Corruption, Rule of law, Energy usage, Renewable energy consumption, GHG emissions (carbon, methane).

Destination-Level Benchmarking Report

Why use this tool?

You may want to compare your performance in sustainable tourism-related subjects with other destinations (reference destinations, to be chosen by you) and with your regional and country average. You can use this comparison to improve and promote the performance of your destination.

How does it work?

Depending on data available from open sources, databases and projects, we will compile data (e.g. scores, ranks and quantities) on your destination and compare these with the reference destinations, regional average and country average.

What are the outcomes of it?

A Destination Benchmarking Report presenting findings and conclusions on the subjects of your choice. This will give you an insight in how your destination is doing in comparison with reference destinations. Where useful, the data will be visualised in charts or maps. When your performance is better than that of reference destinations (or better than the average of your region or country), we will suggest texts that you can use to inform your residents and visitors about this in promotional messages. Check out below the first example of a Destination Benchmarking Report that was created for Schouwen-Duiveland in the Netherlands.

Destination Sustainability Dashboard

Why use this tool?

This tool provides you with a comparison of your destination with reference (potentially competing) destinations in your country, it will allow you to identify issues in regards to your sustainability and competitiveness stance but also, areas where you excel in compared to the reference destination.

How does it work?

We check the availability of data for the comparison. Then you decide what subjects will be presented as an infographic on the dashboard. We will then create a dashboard with a clarification of data sources.

What are the outcomes of it?

The result is a dashboard including infographics of subjects you have chosen. The dashboard is for internal use by your destination only. Below you can find our first sustainability dashboard that was created for Schouwen-Duiveland in the Netherlands.
