G7. Engaging Your Hospitality Sector

Engaging Your Hospitality Sector

Destination Support Group

5 December – 23 December 2022 & 9th January  – 13th January 2023

About the programme

Developing and ensuring a sustainable destination is not possible without the active involvement of the private sector.  Destination managers are aware of this but often struggle with the aspect of encouraging the private sector to contribute towards Sustainability of the destination. The Engaging Your Hospitality Sector support Group assists destinations in assessing the contribution of the private sector in green practises and Sustainable involvement of the community. This Support Group Sessions will focus on peer-to-peer learning with approaches taken by different destinations to ensure maximum participation of the private sector to achieve destination’s sustainability goals.

By actively participating in the group, participants are expected to:

  • Evaluate the level of involvement in sustainability within the private sector
  • Business certification: how to avoid confusion and greenwashing?
  • Create a destination approach to private sector involvement in sustainability
  • Understand how the hospitality sector can communicate their sustainability and climate related efforts?
  • Understand how to phase out single-use plastics from tourism?
  • Understand how to become a ‘green gastronomy’ destination or a ‘green events’ destination?
