G4. Climate Mitigation Planning

Climate Mitigation Planning
How to become a Climate Neutral Destination

Destination Support Group

5 – 23 September and 3-7 October 2022

The profound impact of climate change has created an urgency for the destinations and tourism businesses to take actions towards reducing the carbon emissions and become energy efficient. Tourism sector is most vulnerable to the climate change crisis, therefore it’s essential to develop a prompt strategy to build resilience to climate change impacts.

About the programme

The Climate Mitigation Planning Support group takes a multifaceted approach to support destinations with their climate mitigation planning & efforts to build a Climate-resilient and low carbon mission tourism sector. The workshop will provide destination leaders with expert guidance and tools to measure & benchmark carbon footprints and identify suitable strategies and approaches to achieving a destination’s objective of becoming carbon or climate neutral.

By actively participating in the group, participants are expected to:

  • Calculate Carbon footprint strategy using tools and prepare Carbon emission Strategy
  • What can you do to reduce your destination’s climate footprint?
  • Regeneration: carbon sinks and renewable energy, from offsetting to insetting.
  • Greening destinations, promoting soft mobility and e-mobility
  • An assessment framework for e-mobility.
  • What to measure and monitor? Your KPIs for climate mitigation.
  • Climate mitigation sessions of GGDD and Future of Tourism Summit 2022 (optional).
  •  Feedback and evaluation session.
