Global Leaders members pledge to brainstorm, plan, ideate, and adopt a comprehensive destination management strategy, discussed through a vast nexus of the Global Leaders Network. This allows countries to benefit from a GSTC-Accredited certification program and a GSTC-Recognised standard for destination sustainability. Further, it offers tailor-made training and promotional support businesses through the Good Travel Program business certification.

We are creating Slovenia Green Routes connecting certified destinations and business through thematic bike experiences. We see it’s a great way how to create sustainable tourism product and use them also a marketing tool both for sustainable destinations and business but also for sustainable travel. We see huge potential in this approach since our routes are attracting a lot visibility through international travel magazines: Lonely Planet, National geographic,… and a lot of interest fro visitors. We have more than 6.000 downloads of tracks in one season. If you calculate that usually 4 persons are using one track and on average they spend 7 days and use 100 per day, this is also becoming a very important economic drive for certified destinations and business.

I would like to share with you the Estonian approach to sustainable tourism development. Our tourism enterprises have had the possibility to apply for Green Key certification and a national ecotourism label for about 20 years. It has been a niche topic for decades, but during the last 5 years sustainable tourism has become a super league player. It has gained spotlight in our new tourism strategy and brand story as well as in grant requirements. We have 7 Green Destinations Awarded destinations working together in order to develop an innovative solution to make a sustainable trip planning the best experience ever.
Presentation Title: “Climate Action through Regeneration: Unlocking the Power of Communities and Nature through Tourism.“
Chloe King is presenting on a research effort that has been undertaken over the past year. As part of the study, 30 tourism operators around the globe were interviewed to understand how they are utilizing nature-based solutions. Further objectives of this research were what challenges and opportunities these solutions present for the future of regenerative tourism practices, more resilient sources of finance, and destination health as a whole. The presentation provides practical guidance for businesses and destinations.
What can I expect from the Round Table discussions?
This global round table discussion is intended to highlight the use of products and services for sustainable destination development in the global discussion and to focus on implementing the Green Destinations product range as a complete package at the national level. A cohort of industry professionals with years of rich expertise in sustainable tourism management will lead the charge of the panel.
The attendees can expect high-intensity discussions around initiatives that generate creative solutions for typical destination management problems and inspire destinations from the successes and mistakes of others. To broaden the spectrum of this salient ‘cooperation’ and to inspire destinations worldwide to learn or share good destination management practices, we would like to showcase some of the leading success stories of destinations from our Global Leaders Network: Slovenia, Estonia and Guyana.
