TOURISM DECLARES

We join Tourism Declares Climate Emergency and encourage you to do the same!

OUR COMMITMENT

Our commitment to Sustainable Tourism led us to become founding members of the Future of Tourism Coalition.

As the tourism industry begins its recovery from the coronavirus crisis, the Future of Tourism Coalition shares a global mission: to place destination needs at the center of tourism’s new future.

The Future of Tourism Coalition has joined forces with the Tourism Declares Climate Emergency as we share the same challenges and ideas and we aim to propose solutions that support the development of the tourism sector in balance with the environment, climate, nature, and reinforce the communities well-being.

OUR CLIMATE EMERGENCY DECLARATION

As part of our efforts to create awareness about reducing climate impacts in the tourism sector and to follow accepted scientific consensus on needed reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, Stichting Green Destinations has signed up to Tourism Declares. This initiative supports tourism businesses, organizations and individuals

in declaring a climate emergency and taking purposeful action to reduce their carbon emissions as per the advice from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030. Like all signatories, we have committed to the following five actions:

DEVELOP

a ‘Climate Emergency Plan’ which sets out our intentions to reduce carbon emissions over the next decade.

SHARE

an initial public declaration of our ‘Climate Emergency Plan’, and update on progress each year.

ACCEPT

current IPCC advice stating the need to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030.

ENCOURAGE

our suppliers and partners to make the same declaration, sharing best practices and participate in the community.

ADVOCATE

for change. We recognise the need for system change across the industry to accelerate a just transition towards carbon-free tourism.

THE FUTURE OF TOURISM COALITION

Through our Coalition we recognise the importance of collaboration and uniting a fragmented industry. As such, the Tourism Declares and the Future of Tourism movements will seek to collaborate and work together towards a common goal.

Therefore, the Future of Tourism Coalition itself has recently declared a climate emergency in January 2021, and is encouraging its 500-strong community of organisations signed-up to their 13 Guiding Principles to also “declare”.
